 Support the Library

With your kind and considerate financial contributions, Cabell County Public Library is able to engage our community in literacy and learning. There are a number of ways in which you can support the library in promoting its mission and helping build a stonger community.

You can make a one-time donation to the Cabell County Library by sending a check, payable to Cabell County Public Library.

Mail to:

Cabell County Public Library

Huntington, WV 25701

Or make an online donation.

In Memoriam Gifts

Make a gift in honor, memory, or celebration of a loved one. A memorial plate will be placed in the  book in honor of the loved one.  For information on how to do this, call (304) 528-5700.

Endowment

Consult with your attorney or financial adviser about writing or revising your will. Please use our official legal name.

Here is typical wording for a bequest:

“I give and bequeath to the Cabell County Public Library and its successor $_____ to be used by said organization to carry out its educational objectives.”

Donate Materials

The Library accepts donations of materials such as books, audio books, DVDs, Xbox Games, etc. In addition, we accept school supplies at the main library for the Homework Help Center. If you wish to donate a large number of items to the library at one time, please call in advance so we can make the necessary arrangements. In addition, please contact your local library if you have questions about a specific item you wish to donate.

In accordance with Library’s policies regarding the disposition of materials, qualified staff sort and add materials deemed appropriate to our collection and either release the remainder to the Friends of the Library for their periodic book sales or forward the donation to other organizations.

The Library will give a letter of receipt to persons making donations of books to the Library when the donor provides the library with a list of books donated -- author, title, date of publication, and the donor's estimate of fair market value. The Library staff will not place a value on donated items. All Cabell County Public libraries are 501(c)3 organization.

The following regulations, as quoted from Publication 561, Valuation of Donated Property -- Internal Revenue Service, should be noted:

   1. "For property other than cash, the amount of the deduction is the fair market value of the property"...
   2. "For each gift of property other than cash for which you claim a deduction in excess of $200.00, you must attach the following required information." (Nine requested items of information are listed.)
   3. "Supporting the fair market value listed on a return is the taxpayer's responsibility."
   4. The Library's staff does not qualify as an expert appraiser in the used book field.

Other Ways to Contribute

There are numerous other ways to donate to the library: become a friend, attend one of our special events, or attend a book sale.

Friends of the Library

The Friends of the Library play a very important role in helping the library serve the public. Volunteers donate their time and energy in many ways. The Friends hold three book sales each year at the main library and raise funds for the library to fund special programs, to provide materials, equipment, and supplies to provide items that library funds cannot.

Book sales are held the first Thursday, Friday, and Saturday in the months of February, June, and October on the 4th floor at the main library. The Annual Friends Membership Luncheon is always a special event with a well-known author or personality.

Book Sales

The Friends of the Cabell County Library hold three book sales per year at the Main Branch.  These offer you the opportunity to browse thousands of books at bargain prices. Our branches host a number of sales throughout the year.  Check the calendar on the main library page or call your local library for information on dates of upcoming sales.

Volunteer

You can also support the library by volunteering.  The Library staff and the Friends of the Library welcome individuals or groups who wish to offer volunteer support. Those who would like to volunteer should visit the Administration offices of the Main Library, where they will find application forms and a listing of positions and branch locations where such services are needed. The forms for volunteer applications can be accessed by clicking the links below:
