School Library Journal Review
Gr 5-8-These simply written books are aimed at helping students cope with their own or their friends' mental-health issues. Gregson discusses the causes of stress, explains its positive and negative effects on the body and mind, and outlines strategies for reducing or managing it. Peacock defines and describes the various types of manic depression, how it is diagnosed and treated, particular aspects of its presence in children and teens, and offers a section on staying healthy and productive while coping with this chronic disorder. Colorful photos and graphics are used effectively in these attractive volumes that are accessible to less-able readers, and interesting enough to be starting points for researchers. The "Need to Know Library" series (Rosen), gauged to the same general audience, has similar titles, so purchasing decisions may be based on what you already have.-Mary R. Horn Book Review
These volumes identify five conditions that can affect the lives of teenagers, discuss the psychological and physical symptoms of each, and provide information on recovery. The repetitive prose is accompanied by statistics and testimonials from teenagers. The accompanying color photographs look posed, and in [cf2]Overeating[cf1] show only fit and healthy-looking teens.
