School Library Journal Review
Gr 4-6-On the first page of each title, readers learn that their "mission" is to "think like a historian" so that they can learn about the past. Then, unnamed young narrators take family road trips and visit museums and living-history parks and interact, complete with dialogue, with fictional historians and museum staff, who help them discuss and analyze topics. The books close with "Mission Accomplished" summaries and suggestions for further activities. The format and large font limit space for significant background information and details, and the narratives often seem gimmicky, factors that will limit the usefulness of and audience for these books.
