Summary
Summary
Autism is a disorder that affects over 1.5 million Americans. People with autism often have trouble interacting with other people or expressing themselves in words. Though there is no cure for autism, there are several treatments that can have a positive effect on an autistic person's life. Understanding autism and the experiences of autistic people are important challenges for the future.

School Library Journal Review
Gr 3-6-Other than the odd statement in the first book that Kaposi's sarcoma is usually a "harmless skin cancer," the author adequately discusses the symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, and research related to AIDS and autism. Both texts are well organized and succinct. The statistics are up-to-date and some of the illustrations are very useful (a map indicating the estimated number of cases of AIDS worldwide, a diagram showing the common traits of autism), but most are filler (close-ups of bags of blood and bottles of pills). Adequate overviews of both conditions, complete enough for this age level.-Christine A. Moesch, City of Tonawanda Public Library, NY (c) Copyright 2010.
