An autism spectrum diagnosis today may not carry the stigma it did even a decade ago, but that doesn't mean it isn't still a mystery. The medical field has made tremendous advances in understanding this disability, yet discussions are often couched in the language of genetics and neurobiology. With this practical guide, autism researchers Bernier, Geraldine Dawson, and Joel Nigg parse difficult concepts into language parents and educators can easily understand in a concise, straightforward format. They begin with medical definitions and a section on causation, followed by chapters organized into logical "life areas"--exercise and sleep; gastrointestinal issues; and technology--without overlooking adolescence and adulthood, age groups often missing from other similar titles.
