"Westmoreland Chapters NSDAR chose this as a service project to celebrate the 125th Anniversary of the NSDAR on October 11, 2015. Unfortunately it too much longer to complete. The Bethel Memorial Park Cementary was created in 1927 for the Black Community in Huntington, WV. The cemetary contains only about 150 to 160 gravestones that we needed to read. After finding 60 military graves, and locating death certificates or obituaries for more than 800 individuals, more research was necessary to complete the project. A profile of each soldier, a data base containing information from the death certificates for all 800+ individuals, a state supremed court decision, cemetery and funeral home ownership information and information about Huntington, WV will help the reader understand how the cemetery evolved and why it was abandonded. The profile of each of the 60 U.S. Soldiers is Westmorelands Chapter's way of honoring these men. Many have no tombstone and the exact location in this cemetary is unknown, but we have listed thier military records so they will not be forgotten.
